音のした、戸に人もなし、夕時雨

おとのした、とにひともなし、ゆうぐれ

しぐれが降りる夕暮、戸口にもの音がして誰かが来たようであった。しかし人の姿は見えず、時雨のものさびしさを一入感じたという句。初冬に多い京都の北山時雨は、晴れた空に降りかかっては止み、趣が深く、芭蕉も大事にした

An evening of showers; by the doorway the sound of someone coming but there is no-one to be seen. The lonely sense of the shower.
