Suddenly I see the hibiscus bloom; its petals start to fall

ふと咲けば山茶花の散りはじめかな

ふとさけばさざんかのちりはじめかな

「山茶花」は、晩秋から冬にかけて咲き、散ってはじめて咲いているのに気づく。この句は逆に、「ふと」詰まり偶然そこに咲いていたと詠んでいる。更に、「散りはじめたる」ではなく、「かな」で止めたことで、咲き出したばかりの山茶花の姿と、それを見かけた作者の驚きとが、新鮮に伝わってくる。

しぐれが降りる夕暮、戸口にもの音がして誰かが来たようであった。しかし人の姿は見えず、時雨のものさびしさを一入感じたという句。初冬に多い京都の北山時雨は、晴れた空に降りかかっては止み、趣が深く、芭蕉も大事にした

月一つ, 凩一つ, 浮野道
つきひとつ、こがらしひとつ、うきやみち

埼玉北部加須市近くにある低温原野、それが浮野である。利根川が昔氾濫を繰返した名残を止め、その回りは、遠山と水の景に恵まれている。　凩が吹く時、浮野の道を歩くと、空には月がかかり、寒々とした中独特の情趣があった。「一つ」を重ね、加須に生まれ暮らす作者の浮野への挨拶となっている

Ukiya - the cold moor in the north part of Saitama, close to Kazo city. In old times Ukiya stopped the remnants of the overflow from the Tone river and is blessed with views of water and distant mountains. When the bitter winter wind blows as you walk along the road to Ukiya, the moon hangs alone in the sky you can taste the desolation. Loneliness upon loneliness.
